the wine

Coming from our Adairs Lane Vineyard, Mia Mia is 100% Shiraz made to highlight the sub-regional variation in the Heathcote Wine Region. The parcel of grapes that goes into Mia Mia would normally be blended into Springflat Shiraz. Growing in naturally low vigour dense clay loams over mudstone and sandstone, the selected grapes are fully de-stemmed and fermented in small open fermenters. Gently hand plunged and basket pressed into second use French oak barriques and hogsheads. With careful cellaring, Mia Mia Shiraz can be enjoyed for up to 15 years from harvest.

Current Release Tasting Notes

(Sub – Regional Shiraz) – Dark red in colour, sourced from our Mia Mia vineyard in the cooler southern part of the Heathcote region. Clay based soils over sandstone and mudstone produce wines of finesse when compared to the volcanic based northern soils. The nose is perfumed giving distinctive black pepper and mixed spice notes, with a hint of cedar in the background. The palate is pulpy and vivacious with flavours of plum, fresh thyme and coffee. At the heart of this wine are ripe red fruits and spice. The tannins are extremely fine and coat your entire palate. It’s medium bodied, refined and smooth. Matured for 20 months in 2nd use French and American oak hogsheads. Approachable now, or cellar for 5-10 years
