2017 Yellow Hammer Hill
$28.00 – $310.00
Originally just a Shiraz / Malbec blend, we added Cabernet Sauvignon to this wine to give greater textural diversity. The grapes are sourced from the same vineyards every year, fully and gently de-stemmed, hand plunged and basket pressed. The wine is then matured for up to 23 months in older French and American oak barriques, hogsheads, and large format vats, as well as some concrete vats for added complexity. Yellow Hammer Hill is a wonderful all round red wine to be enjoyed with almost any occasion.
Dense, dark and purple in colour. Red strap liquorice and candied red apple on the nose. The mouth feel is fleshy and expressive with olive notes, hints of clove and a really attractive mineral/stone character. The palate in long and focused with driving fruit flavours of ripe plums and pomegranate. Super focused. A small parcel of the Shiraz and Malbec were co-fermented and it adds to the seamless line and length. Full of purity and utterly drinkable. Matured in older barriques, hogsheads, larger format oak and concrete vats. Cellar up 10 years. 14.8% Alc. Shiraz 78%, Malbec 12% and Cabernet Sauvignon 10%.
